Swimmer Pre-Registration

Pre-registration will guarantee your participation in the event and is strongly encouraged.  Walk-up registrations on event day are not guaranteed, and will only be accepted if spots are open in the appropriate lanes (i.e., to match pace of other swimmers).
  • The guaranteed pre-registration deadline is February 15th, 2015.  Online registrations submitted after that date are subject to lane availability and are not guaranteed.
  • Registration is not considered complete until payment is made.
  • The individual entry fee for 2015 is $30.  Payments will be accepted by cheque or credit card (via PayPal).
  • The event is open to all swimmers aged 14+.
  • Organizers reserve the right to limit the number of entries to the event.
  • Groups of 5-6 individual swimmers may request a designated lane to swim together.
  • Smaller groups (2-4 swimmers) will be accommodated, however other swimmers will be assigned to the lane as well.

No changes to lane assignments will be made on event day.

Participant Information & Event Policies

Note: Swimmers must register and pick up participant bag on event day between 9:15am and 9:45am

General
  • Event organizers and/or Shaw Centre assume no responsibility for valuables.
  • Swimmers must adhere to the regulations of the Shaw Centre facility.
  • The event organizer reserves the right to remove any swimmer from the pool for not complying with the event rules.
Registration
  • Swimmers must register and pick up participant bag on event day between 9:15am and 9:45am.  A table will be set up in Shaw Centre Lobby.
  • Swimmers will be assigned a coloured swim cap.  This is the only way the lap counter can distinguish between swimmers.  Participants must wear the assigned swim cap and swim in their designated lane.
  • Swim will begin at approximately 10:00 am.  Swimmers shall not begin the swim until instructed by event organizers.
Race Start & Timing
  • The pool will be available for warmup from 10:00am to 10:10am
  • The main swim will begin at 10:15 am.  Swimmers shall not begin the swim until instructed by event organizers.
  • Swimmers will have a staggered start, based on swim cap colour.  A whistle will be used to signal each start (about every 5 seconds).
The order will be:  RED, BLUE, YELLOW, GREEN, PURPLE, WHITE
  • Lane counters will use kickboards to signal how many laps have been completed:
500 m Yellow 3000 m Yellow
1000 m Yellow 3500 m Yellow
1500 m Red 4000 m Yellow
2000 m Yellow 4500 m Yellow
2500 m Red 5000 m Red
  • Times will be recorded to the nearest second.  Distances and times recorded by the lane counter are considered final.  The Shaw Centre clock can be used as a reference for swimmers, however each lane counter will have a designated stopwatch to record times for their lane.  In case of any discrepencies, the stopwatch will take precedence.

All swimmers must exit the pool by 1:00 pm.
In the Pool
  • Swimmers must touch the wall, with any part of the body, at the end of each length.
  • Swimmers are allowed to rest, in or out of the pool.  Rest time will not be subtracted from total swim time.
  • Swimmers must ensure they do not interfere with other participants at any time during the event.  Standard pool etiquette is expected.
  • The use of fins, boards, pull buoys, and/or hand paddles is prohibited, unless required for medical reasons.
  • No diving into the pool
Pool Etiquette
  • Organizers will make every attempt to group swimmers together that swim at a similar pace; however, passing may be required occasionally during the event.
  • The recommended procedure is for the faster swimmer to tap the slower swimmer’s foot to indicate they would like to pass. The slower swimmer MUST stop at the wall and allow the faster swimmer to continue without interference (allowing space to turn/push off wall).
  • Passing while swimming should be attempted only if it is safe to do so and doesn’t interfere with other swimmers.
  • Please ensure that you do not interfere with turns at the wall if you need to rest.
